A chef with a knife threatened to burn Benedict Cumberbatch
The intruder shouted threats and wished "the whole place would burn down."
Popular British actor Benedict Cumberbatch and his family had a very unpleasant experience when an unknown man with a knife broke into his North London home.
As it later emerged, the assailant turned out to be 35-year-old chef Jack Bissell, who broke in through the front gate of the small $3.5 million estate, shouting: "I know you moved here, I hope it all burns to the ground." At the time, Benedict Cumberbatch himself, his wife and their three children took shelter in the house and could hear his profanity right outside the door.
Jack Bissell, who previously worked at the Beaumont Hotel in Mayfair, reportedly ripped out one of the plants on the lawn and threw it against the wall and spat on the intercom before ripping it off the building. The chef fled the scene before the situation could escalate further, but fortunately, police found his DNA on the intercom, which eventually led to his arrest.
The investigation revealed that the perpetrator had bought two pita breads from a nearby store before the incident, admitting to the store owner that he was going to break into Benedict Cumberbatch's house and burn it to the ground. It is not yet clear what the connection is between the assailant and Benedict Cumberbatch.
What is the next Benedict Cumberbatch movie?
The actor took part in the making of the sci-fi thriller "The End We Start With." In it, the action takes place in the not too distant future, when, as a result of global warming, London is submerged under water.
