The showrunners of the "The Last of Us" series have confirmed that more than one season of the HBO series, based on the video game series, will be required to adapt the next installment of the video game, The Last of Us": Part 2." While the question was discussed throughout the show's first season, it became clear that after its finale, which ended suddenly and unpredictably on March 12, 2023, fans can't wait to see what happens next, so there's been a major new surge of curiosity.
So, when asked if "The Last of Us: Part 2" could fit into one season of an HBO series like it did with Part 1, showrunner Craig Mazin answered without a second thought, "No. No way." Following that, screenwriter and co-writer Neil Druckmann officially stated that the story of the second season of "The Last of Us" will be "more than one season long."
These answers, however, compel us to go even further in our curiosity and ask the more serious question: how many seasons will it take HBO to cover the massive events of "The Last of Us: Part 2"? Unsurprisingly, the showrunners have given no specifics at this point, only hints: "You correctly noted that we're not going to say how many. But really, more than one is the right answer."
