Chinese streaming services refuse to show movies with Keanu Reeves
Chinese streaming services refuse to show movies starring popular American actor Keanu Reeves. According to the LA Times, in the past week almost all of them were unavailable on the largest digital platforms in the country.
Sources claim that this happened due to the actor's participation in charity events to support the people of Tibet. Specifically, there were earlier reports that Reeves would take part in a special concert for Tibet House, a nonprofit organization in New York affiliated with the exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.
Remarkably, Reeves, who has enjoyed great popularity in China, fell into disfavor shortly after his latest film, The Matrix 4: Resurrections, became the first Hollywood blockbuster to hit Chinese theaters in more than two months, ending an unusually long pause taken by China's oversight authorities that issue permits for foreign films. This happened against a backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions and a further cooling of relations with Hollywood.
None of the streaming platforms commented on what was happening, nor did representatives of the actor himself.
