Craig Mazin shares plans for the second season of "Last of us"
Craig Mazin, showrunner of the HBO television adaptation of "One of Us," has shared his plans for a second season of the series. Although HBO executives have not yet officially renewed the series for a second season, Craig Mazin already knows the direction he would like to take.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Craig Mazin made it clear that a potential second season of the "One of Us" series would be based directly on the sequel to "One of Us: Part 2." While this may seem logical, some fans have wondered if Craig Mazin and co-screenwriter Neil Druckmann would rather "fill in the blank" between the events of the original game and its sequel to detail what protagonists Joel and Ellie were up to. Craig Mazin, however, stated that it would then be like "filler," which is not what he wants.
In promoting the series, which will premiere on January 15, 2023, Craig Mazin noted Bella Ramsey's terrific work, calling her "a terrific actress." Recall that the premiere episode of "Alone With Us" is 85 minutes long.
On the nuances of a potential second season of the "Alone With Us" series
Assuming that "One of Us: Part 2" will be adapted into a second season of the "Alone With Us" series, the question arises as to when that might happen. Recall that the sequel is set several years after the original game, which means that many of the main characters in the series must be considerably older. This is especially important for Ellie, who is played by Bella Ramsey in the HBO series. Whether Craig Mazin and those in charge of the series will want to shoot a second season immediately if it gets the green light, or instead wait until Bella Ramsey is a little older, remains to be seen.
