Ewan McGregor had to lie about Obi-Wan Kenobi's return
The performer as Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi from the "Star Wars" universe, Ewan McGregor, spent years hiding the fact that Lucasfilm was working on bringing the fan-favorite character back to the screen. According to the actor, as soon as he mentioned in 2017 that he wanted to play the character again, the studio began developing a feature-length spin-off devoted to the character, which later evolved into the Obi-Wan Kenobi mini-series, which will debut five years later on Disney+ streaming on May 27, 2022.
I appreciate what Disney and Lucasfilm are trying to do, what we're all trying to do is protect the fan experience. When they see the series, we want their first impressions to be as vivid as possible," McGregor said. - And that's why it's all been kept secret, because the longer they've been able to keep something hidden for the time being, the better, I think, for everybody."
For McGregor, who last portrayed the character on screen in 2005 in "Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith," answering the question, "Would you play Obi-Wan Kenobi again?" was not easy. "I had to say, 'Well, you know, if Disney wanted to do something, I'd be happy about it.' And it went on like that for years - answering, trying not to lie, but not telling the truth either," the actor recalls with a laugh.
