"Fifty Shades of Grey" star Dakota Johnson called the screenplays "psychopathic."
"Fifty Shades of Grey" star Dakota Johnson spoke about her experience filming the trilogy, which she described as "psychopathic." According to the actress, this was largely due to the involvement of the author of the literary source material, E.L. James, who had complete creative control and who suppressed any ideas or suggestions.
She had a lot of creative control - constantly, every day - and she demanded that certain things happen without any changes," the actress said of the writer, who was also one of the producers of the film. - There were parts of the book that just wouldn't work in the movie, like the internal monologues, which were sometimes downright awful. You couldn't speak loudly about it. It was always a battle. Always."
Johnson recalls that there was confusion on the set, and she sometimes had to rewrite scenes for herself. "We'd do takes of the movie Erica wanted to make, and then we'd do takes of the movie we wanted to make. The night before, I would rewrite scenes with old dialogue to add a line here and there. It was like endless chaos.
According to the actress, however, she has no regrets about the situation: "I do not think that this is a cause for regret. If I had known at the time what it would be like, I don't think anybody would have agreed to that at all. I would have thought something like, "Oh, that's psychotic." But no, I don't regret it now. Look, it's been great for our careers. So great. So lucky. But it was weird. Very strange."
