HBO Max is developing a prequel to the horror film "It"
Streaming HBO Max is developing a prequel to the movie "It." The series, with the working title "Welcome to Derry," is set in the 1960s and precedes the events shown in the 2017 film "It," based on the famous Stephen King novel. According to Variety, the series will tell the origin story of Pennywise the Clown.
Andres Mouschetti, who directed "It" and "It 2," has been named executive producer of the series along with Barbara Mouschetti and Jason Fuchs. The Muscetti brother and sister, along with Fuchs, developed the plot, on which Fuchs prepared the script. Andres Mouschetti will shoot the first episode, should the project be ordered for production. As of this writing, a team of screenwriters is being recruited, with Warner Bros. Television and Warner Bros. who directed the feature-length dilogy. Representatives for HBO Max and WBTV refrain from commenting.
If the project is given the green light, it would be another example of how HBO Max is expanding its television content using feature-length projects from its parent studio. Colin Farrell, for example, will reprise the role of Penguin, who he played in "Batman" in the HBO Max limited-episode series. The streaming service is also developing a series devoted to Bena Gesserit's school from "Dune."
