HBO Max is developing two "Sherlock Holmes" spin-offs
HBO Max and Warner Bros. are planning to build a Sherlock Holmes movie and TV universe modeled on the TV spin-offs of "Suicide Squad 2: Mission Away" and "Batman" on a streaming service owned by WarnerMedia.
According to insider information from Deadline, two potential TV spin-offs based on the feature-length Warner Bros. franchise starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are in early development at HBO Max. Each of the series will focus on a different character. Team Downey, owned by Downey Jr. and Susan Downey, is overseeing production. Lionel Wigram, producer of both Sherlock Holmes films, will share production duties with the Downey couple.
Unlike the "Peacemaker" and "Penguin" series, the "Suicide Squad 2" and "Batman" spin-offs, whose plot centers on characters already familiar to viewers from the films, the potential "Sherlock Holmes" series will focus on characters that have not yet been introduced.
According to sources, there is a possibility that the characters in question are from the long-awaited third installment of the feature-length franchise. Originally scheduled to debut in December 2020, which was then pushed back to December 2021, the third film has been delayed due to the pandemic and currently has no new release date. The future of the series hinges on the fate of a potential third part of the film.
