HBO overtakes Netflix in the number of Emmy Awards for 2022
By teaming up, HBO Television and streaming service HBO Max have surpassed rival Netflix in the overall standings for the 2022 Emmy Awards. HBO and HBO Max total 37 statuettes -- 25 wins at the Sept. 4 Creative Arts Emmy Awards and 12 at the Sept. 12, 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Netflix has won a total of 26 trophies, with only three of them in primetime. Last year it was almost the opposite, with Netflix leading the way with 44 Emmy awards, while HBO and HBO Max had just 19.
Thanks to the numerous wins of the White Lotus Anthology in various categories (10 in total), as well as the success of the series "The Heirs," "Euphoria," "Tricks" and the show "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," HBO/HBO Max took a significant lead, adding 12 more to their already 25 statuettes. Netflix, on the other hand, though it scored three important wins -- with the dramas "Squid Game" and "Ozark" -- it was never able to add impressive numbers to its existing 23 wins.
