After unsuccessfully trying to recreate the magic of the Harry Potter movie franchise with the Fantastic Beasts and Where They Live trilogy, Warner Bros. looks to have found a way to recapture fan interest with the Hogwarts Legacy game.
Exact sales figures have yet to be released, but the degree of fan engagement can already be gauged. For example, the appearance of "Hogwarts Legacy" has spurred the highest traffic in seven years in the Harry Potter community on the fan platform Fandom.
According to updated statistics, 267 million hours have been played so far, 393 million magical plants have been grown, 242 million potions have been brewed and 1.25 billion dark mages have been defeated. "Player engagement is impressive," commented David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Games.
He said the company sees Hogwarts Legacy as a long-term franchise. "We are very pleased with the initial launch and see a bright future for other similar releases," he added.
However, the game's appearance has once again sparked a heated debate in the Harry Potter fandom, which has become increasingly irritated as writer Joanne Rowling continues to publicly express views that many consider offensive to transgender people. Although she was not creatively involved in the making of the game, she is profiting financially from its sales, which raises concerns about whether this amounts to support for the anti-trans movement.
What kind of game is Hogwarts Legacy?
Is an open-world role-playing game set in the world of Harry Potter. There are several difficulty options. Players can "attend" classes at the school of wizardry, learn new spells and brew potions, and develop their own fighting style.
