The new head of DC Studios, James Gunn, has spoken highly unflatteringly of his colleagues who ran the company before. He says previous management have "screwed up" and, indeed, "set Henry Cavill up", suggesting he would return to the role of Superman.
That's what happens when you put a writer and director in a leading role," declared James Gunn. It should be noted that it's a rare occasion in the American film industry when the studio boss is so open and unkind about his predecessors. As a rule, the newly minted director of the studio does not make such reproaches, at least publicly.
Recall that after a long search director of Warner Bros. Discovery director David Zaslav stunned Hollywood by hiring James Gunn and Peter Safran late last year to run DC Studios, bringing film, television, animation and video game production under their belt.
They succeed Walter Hamada, who worked alongside former Warners head Toby Emmerich for many years. Other previous key DC players included Zack Snyder, writer and director of Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017), who also played a key role in the comic book adaptation of Wonder Woman (2017) before leaving the company in 2017.
What film projects has James Gunn directed?
The director has had several successful projects to his credit, including the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, Suicide Squad 2: Mission Able and the Peacemaker series.
