James Gunn reveals list of Superman contenders.
Director refutes rumours about Logan Lerman's casting
James Gunn, the writer and director of the upcoming film Superman: Legacy, is compiling a shortlist of potential suitors, but has yet to make a decision on who will play the superhero. The DC Studios exec made the announcement officially on social media, while also refuting rumours that Logan Lerman was up for the Superman role.
Responding to a fan's claim that Logan Lerman was the choice, the director replied, "For the record, I don't know who that is." He later added: "Guys, this is not a hit on the actor. I don't know the names of many actors. Now that you've told me who he is, I recognise him from his projects and I think he's talented. But I've never met him and he's never been in negotiations to play Superman."
Some time later James Gunn wrote: "I haven't had a single conversation with any actor about the role. I'm just making my own list, preparing material for auditions."
Rumours of a Superman casting call have been swirling around social media since the news of his intention to direct Superman: Legacy was announced, but James Gunn has always urged fans to be patient. Back in January 2023, he said that he was still working on the script and that casting would not begin until the script was completed. "Casting, as it almost always happens in my case, will take place after the script is finished or close to being finished, which it is not."
