Actress becomes producer of show
"Wansday" star Jenna Ortega will take on even more responsibility for the project in the second season as the 20-year-old actress will serve as a producer on the popular Netflix show. One of the top priorities for the series' second season, according to the actress and producer, is the horror atmosphere. "We decided we wanted to focus a little more on the horror aspect of the show. Because the show seems light-hearted -- with all the vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don't want to take yourself too seriously. We're giving up any romantic infatuation with Wensday, and that's really great," Jenna Ortega pointed out, referring to the first season's storyline, in which her character found herself in a love triangle with Tyler Galpin (Hunter Duane) and Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hines White). In the past, Jenna Ortega has noted that the plot "didn't make sense" for her character.

Why did Jenna Ortega want to be a producer on the "Wansday" series?
Jenna Ortega admits that producing was a "natural progression" of the work environment after the first season. "We had so many ideas, and I'm the kind of person who's very hands-on. I want to know what's going on. And with a character like Wansday, who is so beloved and is such a legend, I really didn't want her to be misunderstood. So I try to have as many conversations as I can. On the set, with the writers and Tim Burton, we would all get together and decide what worked and what didn't. Naturally, it was already very much a collaboration. So, in preparing for season two, we wanted to get ahead of the curve and make sure that we could start the conversations early. And I'm just really curious. I want to see the outfits, the new characters that are coming in, the scripts, and they were kind enough to let me wear the producer's hat."
