Jennifer Lawrence Will Star in a Movie About Theranos Creator
Theranos was valued at nearly $9 billion but collapsed and was declared fraudulent in 2018 following a journalistic investigation that revealed that the company had misled the investors regarding the accuracy of its blood-testing technology.
It was confirmed that Jennifer Lawrence would play the leading role in the Bad Blood movie about disgraced Theranos creator Elizabeth Holmes, Variety reports. The film will be produced by Apple Studios and directed by Adam McKay, who has already worked with Lawrence on the Netflix project Don't Look Up.
Bad Blood is based on the book by Pulitzer Prize winner and journalist John Carreyrou, Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup. It tells a story about Silicon Valley entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of a biotech company called Theranos.
Holmes claimed to have invented an innovative blood test method, which could make the process of taking blood samples as painless as possible using surprisingly small volumes of blood. The company was eventually valued at nearly $9 billion. However, Theranos collapsed and was declared fraudulent in 2018 following a journalistic investigation that revealed that the company had misled the investors regarding the accuracy of its blood-testing technology.
As of 2021, Elizabeth Holmes is on trial for fraud allegations and faces up to 20 years in prison.
