Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as The Punisher in the Marvel series
Jon Bernthal returns to one of the most punishing roles in his filmography, that of The Punisher from Marvel Comics. The actor, who played Frank Castle, the anti-hero known as The Punisher, in the Netflix series "Daredevil" and "The Punisher," will appear in the familiar character in the Marvel Studios series "Daredevil: Born Again."
Jon Bernthal will join fellow Netflix superhero shows Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Sorvigolov) and Vincent D'Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/Kingpin) in the Disney+ streaming series, which begins shooting in New York City in March 2023. Unlike other Marvel series, whose seasons consist of six or nine episodes, "Daredevil: Born Again" is planned as a grand 18-episode epic. Writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord are directing the show, which is expected to be released in the spring of 2024. Marvel Studios officials refrain from commenting.
The upcoming series is subtitled "Born Again" from the iconic storyline in the 1986 comic book about Daredevil, created by Frank Miller and artist David Masucchelli. The plot of the series will differ from the source material -- it's not yet clear how much. The Punisher, for example, was not in this comic book. Daredevil vs. Wilson Fisk remains the focus.
The Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal
Jon Bernthal first played Frank Castle's grieving father turned vigilante, The Punisher, in the Netflix streaming version of Daredevil in Season 2 in 2016. He then graced the name series "The Punisher," playing the titular character in two seasons that aired on Netflix in 2017 and 2019.
