Kanye West accused Quentin Tarantino of stealing the plot of the western "Django Libre".
Famous musician, producer, actor and entrepreneur Kanye West has accused director Quentin Tarantino and actor Jamie Foxx of stealing his idea, which was the basis for the plot of the western "Django Libre". In an interview, West said he discussed with Tarantino the concept for his 2005 hit music video, Gold Digger: "Tarantino would write a movie about slavery, but he and Jamie got the idea from me, because I gave it to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as a music video for Gold Digger. And then Tarantino turned it into a movie."
In 2012, Tarantino released the revisionist western "Django Freed," about a freed slave (Fox) who teams up with a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to rescue his wife from a plantation. The picture received five Oscar nominations, winning two statuettes for best screenplay (Tarantino) and supporting actor (Walz). In addition to the Oscars, Tarantino and Waltz won Golden Globe and BAFTA awards in the same categories. "Django Libre" on a production budget of $100 million earned more than $425 million at the worldwide box office and became Tarantino's most commercially successful film.
