Mike Tyson to star with Sean Penn in medical drama
Celebrity boxer Mike Tyson returns to the acting ring, joining Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan in a dramatic thriller called Black Flies directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauver. It's an adaptation of Shannon Burke's novel set in the tense world of New York City paramedics, and it tells the story of how this job affects their lives.
Ty Sheridan will play a freshman paramedic who patrols the streets behind the wheel of an ambulance along with a much-experienced veteran, played by Sean Penn. The choices they make will lead them in opposite directions, as the newcomer finds that his desire to help people encounters unexpected obstacles.
Tyson's role is described as central to the film, he will play a senior medical officer. The picture is being shot under the banner of Sculptor Media with Force Majeure, led by creative producer James Masciello and Projected Picture Works. Filming will take place in New York City.
Open Road Films has acquired the rights to screen the drama in the U.S. and plans to release the film theatrically before presenting it on digital platforms.
