Obi-Wan Kenobi star warned about racism
Moses Ingraham, star of the upcoming Disney+ streaming series Obi-Wan Kenobi, revealed that Lucasfilm studio executives warned her about the racist hatred among Star Wars fans online.
According to the actress, the company informed her of the potential slurs ahead of time and took steps to minimize their impact on her. "Lucasfilm warned me in advance, 'This is something that, unfortunately, is likely to happen. But we're here to help you; you can let us know when it happens." - the actress said in particular, adding, "Of course, there are always pockets of hate. But I don't have a problem with the lock button."
In the series, which debuts May 27, 2022, Ingraham will appear as Imperial Inquisitorial agent Reva Sevander, codenamed Third Sister. Formerly a Jedi warrior and now an Inquisitor of the Sith Order, Reva is tasked by Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine to hunt down and destroy any remaining Jedi after Order 66 in Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith. Reva's main target is Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), a former Jedi master who lives in exile on the desert planet of Tatooine, watching young Luke Skywalker (Grant Fili) from afar.
Recall that after the premiere of the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens, lead actors Daisy Ridley and John Boyega were fiercely criticized on social media. The bullying continued in the next film, causing Asian actress Kelly Marie Tran to be forced to shut down her social media accounts.
