Police won't arrest Will Smith for fighting at the 2022 Oscars
Chris Rock, who was slapped by his colleague Will Smith during the live broadcast of the 2022 Oscars, has decided not to file a complaint. This is according to an official statement from the Los Angeles Police Department.
If an interested party wishes to file a complaint at a later date, the police would be prepared to pursue the matter as required by law," the police said in a statement.
Earlier, while presenting the Oscar for best documentary, Rock said, referring to Smith's wife, "Jada, I love you. It is this remark and brought Smith out of his mind, he went up on stage and hit his colleague in the face, and then from the audience advised him to "shut up".
Note that Jada Pinkett Smith, who has worn her hair short at various times throughout her career, has spoken out in 2018 about her struggle with baldness. This isn't the first Oscar ceremony during which Rock has mentioned Jada, his partner in the animated film "Madagascar." As host of the show in 2016, Rock said the actress, would not attend the ceremony or even watch from home due to the lack of racial diversity among the nominees.
