Rachel Segler will star in The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds
"West Side Story" star Rachel Segler has joined the cast of Lionsgate Studios' "The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds," which is in full swing for casting. In the "Hunger Games" prequel, which Francis Lawrence is in charge of directing, the actress will play the female lead, Lucy Gray Baird. Segler will keep company with Tom Blythe, who was previously confirmed for the role of Coriolanus Snow.
The film, based on Susan Collins' novel of the same name, centers on 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow as the hopes of a fading family that has fallen into disrepute in the postwar Capitol. Snow is assigned the role of mentoring an impoverished District-12 girl, Lucy Gray Baird, in the upcoming 10th annual Hunger Games. Snow's worries recede when he sees the impression his mentee makes on those around him during the reaping ceremony. Snow has no doubt that together they will be able to turn the tide in their favor and show who is a songbird and who is a snake.
"Like everyone else, I first saw Rachel Segler in 'West Side Story' and, like everyone else, I knew I was looking at a star who would dominate the screen for a generation," Lawrence said. - 'Lucy Gray is perfect for her - the character is bold, independent and defiant, but also vulnerable, emotional and loving. Rachel will make this character unforgettable." The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds will premiere on November 17, 2023.
The Golden Globe Award-winning Segler will next appear on screens in December 2022 in the comic book movie "Shazam 2." And currently, the actress is starring in the fairy tale "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
