"Shazam 2! The Fury of the Gods" failed at the international box office.
DC Comics adaptation has a poor start at home and abroad
The Warner Bros. "Shazam 2! The Fury of the Gods" had a disastrous start at the international box office, grossing only $35 million on its opening weekend. Thus, along with domestic receipts of only $30.5 million, the sequel earned a very modest $65.5 million.
This is far less than the most pessimistic predictions predicted for the project. The most depressing were the charges in such an important market for Hollywood films as China. Here, audiences virtually ignored "Shazam 2!" as it boasted only $4.4 million by the end of its first weekend. In comparison, the 2019 first series debuted much more confidently in China with $30 million.
Mexico gave "Shazam 2!" a four million dollar start (-32% compared to the first film). The U.K. is three million, down 39% from the previous entry, followed by Indonesia (1.6 million), Brazil (1.6 million) and Australia (1.6 million).
In general, the studio Warner Bros, has yet to assess the scale of the disaster, but it is already clear that "Shazam 2! The Fury of the Gods" was not a salvation for the fading DC film universe, as was the previously released "Black Adam.
