Sylvester Stallone will return for a sequel to the film 'Cliffhanger'
'Greenland' director to direct sequel to popular action film
Sylvester Stallone will take off in a sequel to the popular action film "Cliffhanger" from 1993. Rick Roman Waugh, the creator of films such as Greenland and Falling Angel, has been appointed to direct.
"I grew up on some of the best action movies of the 80s and 90s, worked on many of them myself, and 'Cliffhanger' was certainly one of my favourites. To be at the helm of the next chapter, conquering the Italian Alps with the legend, Sylvester Stallone, is a dream come true. It will be a great challenge for me and I hope the second series will take this franchise to new heights, and I assure you, I do not take that responsibility lightly," said the director in a statement on the occasion.
It is claimed that in the sequel, Sylvester Stallone's character, mountain rescuer Gabe Walker, will have a supporting role, with a new hero at the centre of the plot. The performer for this role is yet to be announced, as well as the rest of the cast. Production on the sequel will be handled by Original Film Studios.
The project is expected to be presented at the European Film Market, which will take place after the conclusion of the Cannes Film Festival. A potential release date has not yet been announced.
