The "Bad Guys" cartoon topped the box office
The DreamWorks animated film "Bad Boys" topped the U.S. box office, grossing $24 million in its opening weekend. This was quite enough to displace the previous leader - the film "Fantastic Beasts 3: The Mysteries of Dumbledore," which rolled right back to third place.
Abroad, "Bad Boys" earned another $63 million, bringing the total gross to $87 million. "The very positive reaction from critics and audiences to 'Bad Boys' echoed our film's superiority at the domestic box office this weekend, and deservedly so, as it is a sharp, charming film, a smart comedy for the whole family," commented Universal distribution head Jim Orr.
In second place was "Sonic 2 at the Movies," which added another $15.2 million to its box office. Cumulative grosses exceeded $145 million.
Fantastic Beasts 3" fell sharply in its second weekend. The big-budget Warner Bros. studio project grossed just $14 million domestically in 4,245 theaters, down 67 percent from its debut weekend. It's doing slightly better overseas, where it earned $213.2 million for a global total of $280.3 million.
