The cartoon "Minions 2: Grüvitatsiya" started better than predictions
The full-length animated film Minions 2: Gruvitation has had a better-than-expected start at the domestic and international box office. In North America, it grossed an impressive $109.5 million over its standard weekend, and $129.2 million will be in its account over the four-day weekend.
The expected worldwide debut of $196.6 million, or $202.1 million including pre-release balances. Thus, once again, the priority of releasing such projects in the theatrical box office has been confirmed.
In five foreign markets, "Minions 2: Gruvitation" had the strongest start among animated films, in addition, 13 countries, including the UK, recorded the best debut result of Illumination Studios. In Spain, "Minions 2" earned $1.2 million. This turned out to be the best achievement since the release of the cartoon "Cold Heart 2." The sequel took 65 percent of the market and grossed almost six times as much as Universal's own film, "Jurassic World 3: Reign."
"Minions 2: Gruvitation" cartoon characters were voiced by Steve Carell, Pierre Coffin, Taraji P. Henson, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Michelle Yeoh and others.
