The successor to director Paul King, who directed the first two films about the adventures of Paddington Bear, has been named. It became a British director of short films Dougal Wilson. The film itself was officially titled Paddington in Peru.
The first two films about Paddington, in which Ben Whishaw voiced the main character, were critically acclaimed, grossing over $500 million at the worldwide box office. Details regarding the plot and cast of the threequel are being kept secret. Mark Burton, John Foster and James Lamont wrote the script, based on a story by Burton, King and Simon Farnaby. King will also executive produce the film, which will be released next year.

The family adventure franchise co-produced by StudioCanal and Heyday Films is based on the classic character, Paddington Bear, featured in more than 20 books by British author Michael Bond. The original 2014 film, The Adventures of Paddington, was about a young Peruvian bear who travels to London in search of a home. Once at Paddington Station, lost and alone, he meets the kind Brown family, who offer him temporary shelter. In the sequel, released in 2017, Paddington is happy with the Browns and has become a popular member of the local community.
