The director of "Wildcat" will make a remake of the horror film "Fear of Spiders"
Christopher Landon ("Game"), a connoisseur of horror comedy films, will write and direct a remake of the genre's acclaimed 1990 film "Fear of Spiders" for Amblin Partners.
The original "Fear of Spiders," a parody of horror films directed by Frank Marshall, told how a South American killer spider arrived in the United States in a coffin and then began breeding and killing residents of a small California town. The lead role in Marshall's debut feature film was played by Jeff Daniels. He was accompanied by Julian Sands, Harley Jane Kozak and John Goodman. Walt Disney Studios subsidiary Hollywood Pictures produced the film, which grossed $53.21 million at the box office and about $30 million more on video sales on a budget of $31 million.
Amblin's partner in producing the remake will be James Wan's Atomic Monster studio. Wang and Michael Clears himself will serve as producers, while Judson Scott and Marshall will serve as executive producers.
Landon is best known as the director of Universal and Blumhouse's comedy slasher, Game, as well as Blumhouse's popular horror films Happy Death Day and Happy New Death Day.
