The makers of "Scream" will direct a remake of the "Escape From New York" thriller

Radio Silence, the directorial team behind such genre projects as "Scream," "Evil" and "I'm Going Looking," will lead the reboot of 20th Century Studios' acclaimed sci-fi thriller "Escape From New York." Representing The Picture Company, Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman will produce the film along with Radio Silence.
John Carpenter, director of the original film starring Kurt Russell, will serve as executive producer on the film, which is listed in Studiocanal's library; the French company will own the distribution rights to the project in several territories. The Picture Company has a general deal with Studiocanal.
No word yet on the vision or approach to the film, but sources say that a search for a screenwriter is underway.
The Radio Silence crew includes Matt Bettinelli-Olpina, Tyler Gillette and Chad Villella. Their last film, a reboot of the Scream franchise, was a hit for Paramount and grossed $140 million at the worldwide box office and received critical acclaim. The team has just completed the next chapter in the "Scream 6" series, which will hit theaters next year.
