The successful model of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will serve as a model for creating a world other than superheroics - the world of vampires and witches. In addition to two new series, "The Vampire Chronicles" and "Mayfair Witches," which will debut later this year, the network will adapt several other works by acclaimed writer Anne Rice ("Interview with a Vampire"). According to AMC Studios entertainment content president Dan McDermott, there are other, "unofficial" projects in development, which are being worked on following a model similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We have other projects that are in development. It's unofficial for now, but we do plan to do five or six series in this universe over the next five or six years. We're going to take characters from different shows and combine them into what we call our original "star" series. There will be secondary characters and maybe one or two main characters from one or two shows, and they will form the original series, which will be based on the Anne Rice universe," McDermott stated.
McDermott continued: "The best model would be an Avengers-style series where you take characters from different shows, combine them and tell an original story using them all, their backstory and their mythology. The goal is to cover as much of the original literary material and the characters' backstories and mythology as possible. I think that's a really exciting perspective."
The Vampire Chronicles, Anne Rice`s Mayfair Witches
AMC has acquired the rights to 18 Anne Rice books in 2020, including the "Vampire Chronicles" series as well as the "Mayfair Witches" trilogy. The Vampire Chronicles series, based on the first novel in the series, "Interview with a Vampire," will premiere this fall. Sam Reed (Lestat de Lioncourt) and Jacob Anderson (Louis de Pont du Lac) play the lead roles. "Mayfair Witches" is also scheduled to debut in 2022. In it, Alexandra Daddario will appear as Rowan Mayfair and Harry Hamlin will play Cortland Mayfair.
