"The Winchesters" series will remain without additional episodes for the first season
The CW's new owners, The CW Nexstar, have declined to order additional episodes for the network's two new scripted series, Warner Bros. Television and "Walker: Independence" from CBS Studios. Thus, the first seasons of the series, which debuted this fall, will remain with the original 13 episodes.
According to insiders, such a decision applies to all of The CW's new television projects - the network's head Dennis Miller has put producers and creative teams on notice that no decisions have yet been made about the next seasons, noting that not ordering production of additional episodes does not mean the show is cancelled.
Nevertheless, the decision further underscores Nexstar's desire to cut costs, as well as promote cheaper unscripted shows. Four of The CW's scripted series are nearing completion for the current television season: "The Flash," "Riverdale," "Nancy Drew" and "Stargirl." The list is expected to grow as the season progresses.
The Winchesters" ("The Winchesters") and "Walker: Independence" ("Walker: Independence")
Both "The Winchesters" and "Walker: Independence" are well-established by ratings standards on The CW and are new chapters in the network's hugely popular "Supernatural" and "Walker" franchises, respectively. So under normal circumstances, full seasons for both shows would be the natural progression of things.
