Tom Cruise flew to the premiere of "Top Gun: Maverick" by helicopter
In typical Tom Cruise fashion, the premiere of the military action film "Top Gun: Maverick" didn't take place on the usual red carpet on Hollywood Boulevard. Instead, in advance of the film's Cannes debut, Paramount presented the film aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway, with the lead actor arriving for the premiere in his own way.
While his fellow cast members followed a more traditional arrangement, Cruise, a licensed pilot, arrived by helicopter, which he piloted personally, landed aboard the ship and greeted his fans, joking that arriving on an Uber would have been too easy for him.
This attraction kicked off the premiere performance with a flight of combat planes, a formation of soldiers in full parade and a stellar cast of the long-awaited sequel.
Producers of the picture confirmed that Tom Cruise did perform stunts in the action scenes "Every time you see him fly, that's him in that plane," commented Jerry Bruckheimer, adding that no stunt was deemed too difficult or dangerous for the star. "It's absolutely impossible to talk Tom Cruise out of it. He's going to do what he's going to do," he added.
