Tom Cruise will leave the Cannes Film Festival because of a meeting with monarchs
Tom Cruise will not be present at the party to celebrate the screening of his highly anticipated action film "Top Gun: Maverick", which will be held at the Cannes Film Festival. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise will fly to London on Wednesday night, May 18, after a reception to be held in his honor at the Palais Thierry Frémaux before a special screening of the film. There, the Hollywood star will take part in the ongoing celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee and will hit the red carpet with Prince William and Kate Middleton on Thursday night, May 19, 2022.
The British premiere of "Top Gun: Maverick," a special screening for the royal family organized by Paramount Studios and the British Film and Television Charity, will take place May 19 in London's Leicester Square, and Cruise, along with director Joseph Kosinski and Paramount executives, will be introduced to members of the royal family.
While Cruise is the brightest star on the Croisette this year, his visit to the famed European film festival seems to be of lesser importance than his participation in the royal events. On Sunday, May 15, for example, he co-hosted a major television event at Windsor Castle celebrating the Queen's 70th anniversary on the throne. Cruz presented a performance by the Royal Mounted Artillery of the Royal Detachment, noting that it was "one of the most breathtaking spectacles" he had ever seen.
