"Top Gun: Maverick" set a record on Paramount+
Top Gun: Maverick continues to conquer the heights. Among the drama action film's new achievements, it became the most-watched film ever released domestically on Paramount+. The film premiered on streaming on Dec. 22, 2022, and quickly surpassed the previous first weekend viewership record, "Sonic at the Movies," by 60 percent. Paramount Global has not disclosed specific viewing figures for either film.
In anticipation of the streaming debut of "Top Gun: Maverick," viewers refreshed their memories by watching the original "Top Gun" movie, which saw an audience increase of about 400 percent. Apparently, it was a weekend ruled by Tom Cruise, as even views of the "Mission Impossible" franchise movies were up 140 percent.
