"Varyag" has been given an "adult" rating
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPA) has officially given Robert Eggers' upcoming historical film "Varyag" an "R" rating, which means that the film contains scenes of violence, nudity and sex. Given the fact that the film is about revenge, it's not surprising that an epic adventure set in the tenth century earned such a rating.
Recall that the plot centers on the young heir to the Viking leader (Alexander Skarsgard), seeking revenge for the murder of his father. The cast is packed with big names: Nicole Kidman, Klas Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Bjork and Willem Dafoe.
Known for his more chamber pictures "The Witch" and "Lighthouse," Eggers explained how "Viking" differs from his other work. "The story is so massive and with so many locations and different details that I couldn't be responsible for it all by myself," Eggers previously said. - This film was a real challenge ... It has a lot of locations, so we were constantly going on scouting trips to find the right places, to evaluate them, to build the sets there. We were designing all these worlds, building villages, creating thousands of costumes and props, training horses and things like that."
The theatrical release of the picture is scheduled for April 22, 2022
