Vodka-loving dragon series with Nicolas Cage changed streaming
Vodka-loving dragon Nicholas Cage has a new home - the Highfire series, based on the adult thriller novel The Last Dragon by Jon Colfer ("Artemis Fowl"), is in development by Paramount+. In 2020, it was announced that Amazon Studios had acquired the rights to the project, in which the main character will be voiced by Nicolas Cage.
The series, which is positioned as a mix of the True Detective series and the fantasy film Pete and His Dragon, will be adapted for television by the creator of the dark Epix comedy Get Shorty, Davy Holmes. MGM Studios is in charge of production. Holmes, Cage and Andrew Mittman ("Wednesday") will share executive producer duties. Paramount+ refrained from commenting.
The gripping game series "The Last Dragon" is a dark crime thriller with dozens of elements of magical realism. Its protagonist, Lord Highfire (Cage), a vodka-drinking, "Flash Dance"-loving dragon, leads a secluded life in the Louisiana Bay Area.
The project will be Cage's first major scripted television series after the Amazon project "Joe Exotic," in which he was to play the title role, was frozen. Cage's recent major works include "Pig" and "The Unbearable Burden of Great Talent," while upcoming ones include "Renfield," "The Old Road" and "Butcher`s Crossing."
