Warner Bros. dropped HBO in streaming name for children's sake
The company will try to get involved in the fight for children's audiences
Warner Bros. Discovery refused to brand HBO in the name of its new streaming service because of the desire to compete for children's and family audience, whose attention is almost indiscriminately attracted by the streaming services of Disney.
This is the information shared by experts and insiders. "Frankly, I don't think they had much choice but to give up part of the popular name to compete with Disney and Netflix," one commented.
Recall that Warner Bros. Discovery hit the headlines when it unveiled its Max streaming service, previously called HBO Max. The presentation was accompanied by high-profile announcements of series based on familiar franchises such as Harry Potter, The Big Bang Theory and Game of Thrones.
But CEO David Zaslav and his team will have to do much more to impress sceptical Wall Street investors and gain the trust of consumers who already have a wealth of entertainment choices. And, most difficult of all, it will have to do so without the powerful HBO brand as the main bait.
It should be noted that immediately after the presentation of Streaming Max, Warner shares plummeted by six per cent.
