Will Smith and Jessica Chastain win Oscar 2022
The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the winners of its Oscar 2022 Award for Best Leading Actor in a Feature Film. They were Will Smith, who played in the biographical drama "King Richard" and Jessica Chastain, who starred in the film "Tammy Faye Eyes.
This was the third Oscar nomination for both actors, and both won for the first time. They also claimed various professional awards this year, including the Golden Globe, which is presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Will Smith became something of a "hero" of the ceremony, due to a live on-air conflict with fellow actor Chris Rock, who was to announce the winners in the documentary category. Rock made a joke about Smith's wife's hair, after which the actor got up on stage and punched the host in the face.
Those in the audience at first took this hand-to-hand violence as planned, but then it became clear from the reactions of both actors that the scandal was not a joke. Sources say that Rock later apologized through Denzel Washington's mediation.
