The new installment of Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" TV franchise, "Yellowstone: 1923," starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, has set a new benchmark for both the creator of the popular universe and Paramount+. "Yellowstone: 1923," released this past weekend, Dec. 18, 2022, was estimated by streaming to be the most popular premiere on Paramount+ in the United States. Remarkably, the western surpassed the previous record by nearly 80 percent. It eclipsed such Paramount+ debuts as "Halo" and other Sheridan-produced series like "Yellowstone: 1883," "The Mayor of Kingstown" and "King of Tulsa."
Overall, "Yellowstone: 1923" premiered Dec. 18 to 7.4 million viewers on Paramount+ and other Paramount Network television platforms.
"The 'Yellowstone' universe continues to break records, and our latest chapter, 'Yellowstone: 1923,' was the most-watched premiere in Paramount+ history and is the best debut on cable in 2022," said Paramount Media Networks & MTV Entertainment Studios president and CEO Chris McCarthy in a statement. - Taylor Sheridan continues to impact a cultural nerve that audiences at home and around the world can't resist, and this latest installment shows no sign of slowing down -- proving once again the strength of our strategy for the franchise that fuels Paramount+'s future."
