Zendaya sets record in Emmy Award history
"Euphoria" star Zendaya made history on July 12, 2022, when she received her second Emmy nomination for her role in the HBO teen drama, becoming the youngest two-time nominee in the acting category. The actress, now 25, is also the youngest actress-producer, serving as executive producer of a series that is up for nomination in the best drama series category. Previously, Zendaya set the record with her first win in 2020, making her the youngest actress to win Best Actress in a Drama Series.
Based on the Israeli TV series of the same name, "Euphoria" is about a group of high school students in an East Highland town, including 17-year-old drug addict Ruth (Zendaya), touching on the teenagers' experiences of identity and trauma, drugs, family relationships, friendship, love and sex. The American remake is based on a script by Sam Levinson, who serves as writer, producer and director. The second season was released on HBO in January 2022, becoming the most watched in HBO history, second only to the epic "Game of Thrones." A month later, the series was renewed for a third season.
Over the past two years, "Euphoria" has received nine Emmy nominations.
